Nearly two decades ago, John Marion began winemaking at his home, the BIG WHITE HOUSE. Now joined by son, winemaker John Evan, Big White House customizes our winemaking practices to maximize the character of each varietal along with its balance and finesse. We choose vineyards that give distinctive individual character to our favorite varietals and match our winemaking to accentuate the qualities of the vineyard’s soil and microclimate. We gently press in a small press to avoid harsh tannins. The final result, hand crafted wine of rare quality. While tasting our boutique wines you can enjoy our display of work by local artists.

Chouinard Vineyards
Chouinard is a little hillside winery located on the Walpert Ridge just west of Pleasanton. Nestled in the East Bay’s wooded hills, sits a California 1930’s vintage redwood barn – the Chouinard winery and Tasting Room. This little “gem” of a winery produces a dozen wine varieties in small lots. The eclectic selection includes a crisp California Champagne, a well-reputed old vine Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, and a delectable Orange Muscat. The pastoral setting of the European-style terraced vineyards and the wooded picnic grounds is a charming contrast to the exuberance of the summer Music in the Vineyard series. The winery site can also be reserved for special groups and gatherings.

Mitchell Katz Winery at Ruby Hill
The Livermore Valley, one of California’s oldest wine regions, has provided fertile ground for Mitchell to harvest his dream of handcrafting affordable quality wines. Mitchell Katz Winery is located where the Ruby Hill Winery once stood. The solid brick building stood out as a gem of the Livermore Valley, named Ruby for its bright red soil. Today you see an architectural replica formed exclusively of bricks and keystones from the original Ruby Hill Winery building of 1887, which met its demise on November 8, 1989 due to a suspicious fire. Mitchell Katz Winery is proud to call this their home.
